24By7Security celebrates National Cyber Security Awareness Month

Written by 24By7Security | October, 28 2017

October is National Cyber Security Awareness month.   This is a collaborative effort between the Department of Homeland Security and its private and public partners, with a goal of raising awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and individual cyber hygiene.

24By7Security is proud to do its part in National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) by partnering with prominent educational institutions in South Florida like Nova Southeastern University and Miami-Dade College, both of whom are celebrating with major educational events on Cybersecurity.    Rema Deo, Managing Director, spoke on cyber hygiene and cyber risks for teens, on October 19, 2017, to local area high school students at Nova Southeastern University along with other speakers from the public and private sector.   It was impressive to see the level of knowledge and engagement present in high school student today. Sanjay Deo, President, spoke at the Miami Dade College Annual Cybersecurity Day on October 26 at the Miami Dade College’s Inter American Campus in Miami. The audience included college staff, students and High School students from neighboring public and private schools on the topic of Social Media Risks.  The objective of both these discussions  was to educate students on Social Media risks related to cyber predators, cyberbullying, identity theft, appropriate and illegal postings and scams and hoaxes. The message to the students was to post sensibly and take care of their personal information.

When it comes to Cybersecurity Awareness, its good to start young and its great to see these universities taking such an active role in educating our teenagers on this vitally important subject and career option.

The Department of Homeland Security makes several resources available to raise Cybersecurity awareness. They also publicize the Stop . Think . Connect program where you can see Cybersecurity tips and blog posts. Please visit their website at https://www.dhs.gov/publication/national-cyber-security-awareness-month-resources to learn more.
